Life in the Milieu: Promise Village is a Caring, Relational, Home-Like Place where Counseling is Part of Every Aspect of Daily Life
Promise Village is an outstanding residential treatment home and boarding school for troubled boys ages 10-17. Located on 70 acres of ranch property in Davisburg, Michigan, about a half hour from Flint and an hour from the Detroit airport, we are easily easy to get to from Bridgeport, Connecticut and cities across the country. We use many forms of therapy in an eclectic model that lets us fashion a program perfectly suited for each boy. The cornerstone of our culture is our Life Coaches, staff who live and work directly with residents, serving as positive role models and looking out for everyday “teachable moments.” We call this loving, safe atmosphere the “milieu,” and it simply means that we surround your teen with a positive place that promotes change.
Animal-Assisted Therapy and Activities
Children and teens bond quickly with animals even when they can’t or won’t accept people. Making an animal-friend teaches empathy and breaks down walls, building relational skills that teens can transfer later to human relationships. Dogs and particularly horses are the emphasis of our popular and professional animal therapy, but our farm also houses exotic birds; outdoor cats; miniature goats, horses, and donkeys; llamas; and a friendly cow.
Boarding School for Boys that Includes Improving Academic Performance and Motivations
We help children and teens figure out the reasons for their previous problems with school, and then we take care of those reasons. As they set objectives for their lives and see how school makes those goals possible , they gain motivation to improve their grades. With an individualized academic plan for each child, support from Life Coaches and Therapists, and consistent attendance, students show steady, if not radical, improvement.
Spiritual Development and PROMISES for Character Growth
Promise Village is a non-denominational faith-based organization. We take care of spiritual needs as part of developing the whole person. Residents work a step at a time through eight “PROMISES” principles designed for integrating personal values into their lives. In three stages, children and teens start from their strengths to make the values true in their own lives; then they begin to help and serve their peers; and finally they transfer their progress back to the home environment.

More about therapeutic programs for boys in or near Bridgeport, Connecticut:
Bridgeport is the most populous city in the U.S. state of Connecticut. Located in Fairfield County, the city had an estimated population of 144,229 at the 2010 United States Census and is the core of the Greater Bridgeport area. The city is part of the Greater New York City Combined Statistical Area and the fifth largest city in New England (behind, in order: Boston, Worcester, Providence, and Springfield.) Bridgeport is also the center of the 41st largest urban area in the United States, just behind Austin, Texas (40th).
The city is marked by its attachment to its famous resident, the circus-promoter and once mayor P.T. Barnum. Barnum built three houses in the city, and housed his circus in town during winters.
Other than Black Rock and parts of Brooklawn which were originally part of the township of Fairfield, Bridgeport was originally a part of the township of Stratford. The first English settlement on the west bank of the mouth of the Pequonnock River was made somewhere between 1639 and 1665 and was called Pequonnock. This village was renamed Newfield sometime before 1777. More people settled further inland and to the West and the area officially became known as Stratfield in 1701, likely due to its location between the already existing towns of Stratford and Fairfield. During the American Revolution, Bridgeport was a center of privateering. In 1800, Newfield village was chartered as the borough of Bridgeport, and in 1821 the township of Bridgeport, including more of Stratfield, was incorporated. Finally, Bridgeport was chartered as a city in 1836.
The city was home to the Frisbie Pie Company, and therefore it has been argued that Bridgeport is the birthplace of the frisbee.
The city is also home to the first Subway Restaurant, opened in the North End section of the city in 1965.
